I love the feeling you get when you read a romance novel and you feel the plunge in your stomach because the hero (or heroine) has just admitted how in love they are.
Not every book gives me this sensation, but Fangirl Down did. Maybe it is (again!) my love for niche romance when I know absolutely nothing about the niche (in this case, golf). But I think there was something special about the couple in this one—it felt romantic and breathless rather than over-the-top.
No, the obstacles to Wells’ and Josephine’s relationship didn’t seem significant—is location really an obstacle if money is no object?—but the way this obstacle sparked their discussion about sacrificing for each other’s dreams was heartening. There is a line between making decisions for your partner and wanting to take care of them, and it is a fine one. this novel showed the difficulty of walking it.

Also, like many books I love, it made me laugh. Dare I say it made me giggle with delight! It had just the right twists of humor to lighten up the steamy romance. There wasn’t much in the way of secondary characters, but I didn’t miss them much. (Although I will definitely be putting the sequel, about the couple’s best friends, on my TBR list.)
The most consequential secondary characters were Josephine’s parents, and they were just a lovely older couple. A wholesome counterpoint, who cared deeply about both Josephine and Wells. It was simply delightful.
Grab a cup of something warm and snuggle up with Fangirl Down. You won’t regret it.
