Welcome to Breakaway Books! I believe that books can take you anywhere, take you away from whatever troubles you have. I particularly love fantasy, science fiction, romance, and mysteries, and you’ll find lots of recommendations for those here.
But, there are also lots of books here that aren’t about escaping at all: they’re about seeing from different perspectives and looking at life more closely. Stories can change our minds, and I love the power books have to do that.
I post about newer books approximately twice a week, along with a review of an older one on Thursdays. Many of the reviews are accompanied by photos of their settings—just a reminder that as much as we love to read, it’s great to get out there and see the world too!
The reviews have stars at the top for my overall rating of the book (1–5 stars) as well as my escapism rating (1–5 beach umbrellas). If a book transports me, sucks me in so that I can read for hours without moving an inch, makes me forget what’s going on my life—that’s a 🏖️🏖️🏖️🏖️🏖️ book. If a book is marvelous, making me think about how I’m living my life with a whole new lense and more depth—that may be a five star book, but probably not high on the escapism scale. Enjoy!
